National Fitness Day is an annual event sponsored by the President’s Council on Physical Fitness and Sports, the American Academy of Pediatrics, the Centers for Disease Control, and other organizations. The day is meant as a time for families to get outside together, enjoy nature, stay active, eat healthy food, and have fun. It was established in 1979 as part of President Jimmy Carter’s Healthy People Initiative. Since then it has been celebrated on four different days each year.
This year National Fitness Day will be celebrated on Tuesday September 4th with events all across America. There are many ways you can participate depending on your interests or location- you could go hiking with friends or go apple picking at a local farm if you live near one.
The History of National Fitness Day
